Hitting the Wall

Overall I had a miserable race, but I learned a lot from it. This morning started out very cold. It was about 45 degrees. The sun came out for a bit but for the most part it was cold. The run started off well, I was running about 9:25 a mile for the first 3 miles, then dropped down to about 8:40-8:30 a mile for the next 6 miles. Then when mile 10 came, I just hit the wall and could not get through it. It was my feet that made me hit the wall. At about mile 5 I could feel blisters forming on both my feet, by mile 10 I had sharp pain in my right foot. I have a huge blood blister on my foot. The blister made every step for the last 3 miles very painful. I needed to walk every 100 yards. I ended up finishing at 2 hours and 17 mins.

Things I have learned:
-I needed to break in my shoes
-I am not a fan of ascis and need a new pair of new balances
-I need to train!!!!
-I need proper nutrition!!!
-I need to get leaner
-I need to build stronger legs

I have about 5 weeks till Shamrock N Half. Running that race with my brother, should be a fun race. Goal is 1 hour and 50 mins.

Thank you to all the volunteers today at the Davis Stampede, the race does not function without you.

Davis Stampede 2/9/09

I have decided to run Davis Stampede which is a half marathon (13.1 miles). I haven't done much running this year, so I am a little scared. I am looking at this race as motivation to get back into training and just wanting to have fun and be in the race atmosphere. This will be my second half and I have no specific time goal.

I recently just got into running and triathlons. Last October I ran my first triathlon which was Golden State. Last November I ran the US Half in San Francisco. Last December I ran the California International Marathon (CIM). I refer to this as the triple crown. I am newbie to endurance sports and hope to continue training and racing for the rest of my life. I feel that I have a great passion for it. I enjoy the training: setting a goal, planning a training schedule, eating right and competing. The goal for 2009 is to complete 2 marathons, 2 triathlons and some half marathons. I am looking to improve my stamina, endurance and times.

Here's a tentative schedule for 2009:
March: Shamrock N Half- Sacramento
July: SF Marathon- San Francisco
Aug: Folsom Olympic Triathlon- Folsom
Oct: Golden State Triathlon- Sacarmento
Dec: CIM- Sacramento
